Trademark registration routes into Japan

There are two routes for a trademark registration from foreign countries into Japan. One is a direct route with or without a priority right under the Paris Convention. Another is a Madrid Protocol route.

	Direct route You can file a trademark with the Japan Patent Office directly. You can claim a priority right under the Paris Convention if you have corresponding trademark application out side of Japan. Once we recieved your enquiry or filing instruction, we will send you a simple comment on the possiblity of the registration. You can give up the application at this stage and we will not charge at all. If you decided to proceed the application, we will take a necessary procedure with the Japan Patent Office.

Direct route

You can file a trademark with the Japan Patent Office directly. You can claim a priority right under the Paris Convention if you have corresponding trademark application out side of Japan.
