Trademark registration routes into Japan

There are two routes for a trademark registration from foreign countries into Japan. One is a direct route with or without a priority right under the Paris Convention. Another is a Madrid Protocol route.

Directly into Japan

Direct route

You can file a trademark with the Japan Patent Office directly. You can claim a priority right under the Paris Convention if you have corresponding trademark application out side of Japan. Once we recieved your enquiry or filing instruction, we will send you a simple comment on the possiblity of the registration. You can give up the application at this stage and we will not charge at all. If you decided to proceed the application, we will take a necessary procedure with the Japan Patent Office.

Necessary infomation for a direct route

The followings are required.

  • Trademark(Image file(if it is logo or figure)
  • The products or/and services to which the trademark is used
  • The class of the products or/and services if you can identify
  • A full name and an address of the applicant
  • An application number of a basic application if you claim the priority right under the Paris Convention

We will select a suitable class for "the products or/and the services" when you can not identify it.
